UCI unveils next big thing for “Big Data”
Bren School professors have created a new technology that helps users to better store and make sense of Big Data, maximizing the benefits of the roughly 2.5 quintillion bytes of online information generated every day. Dubbed “AsterixDB,” the software is now available for free download at http://asterix.ics.uci.edu/.

Two Bren School students are among this year’s Global Google Ph.D. Fellows, the company announced in June. According to Michael Rennaker of Google University Relations, Yingyi Bu (computer science) and Bart Knijnenburg (informatics) join “a select group recognized by Google researchers and their institutions as some of the most promising young academics in the world.”
