So
I seriously had a debate with myself over whether I should expand
the review beyond “Thin Lizzy plus Entombed equals GO BUY
NOW!” Kids like it simple and they like it mathy. This would
also explain the rise of breakdowns and all these Coalesce rip-offs
as of late. Part of me wishes I was complaining about more Motörhead
clones, but then the other part of me knows that there can be too
much of a good thing. That is why the Doomriders come across as
so refreshing. They have rescued the dinosaur known as “groove”
from the blast beat cyborg that threatened it with extinction. These
kind of pleasant surprises pepper the cd, from the crooning blues
instrumental of “Voice of Fire” to the Sabbath like
intro to “Ride or Die.” If anything, Doomriders impress
me the most with their organic approach to the music rather than
opting for the overproduced, drum triggered, impotent guitar toned
standard that heavy music has become accustomed to these days. Being
recorded at Godcity doesn’t hurt raw factor either.
