There’s no reason that Elliott shouldn’t be playing on your local rock station, except for the fact that they broke up. Nevertheless, their inoffensive, soft rock could make any Coldplay fan giddy. In fact, Elliott has that sound of a mainstream pop-rock band that never made it big. At times, they incorporate classical instruments into their music, attempting to create the grandest anthem-rock possible, complete with audible guitar solos. Chris Higdon’s graceful voice is a wonderful accompaniment to their poppier tunes and to their more “epic” songs. The last songs of this collection of b-sides consist of the band’s spacier, more atmosphereic songs. Are they trying to be Mogwai? While not entirely dull, Elliott is nothing new. If I really wanted to listen to this, I would have put in an Explosions in the Sky record.
