Literally,
doppelgänger means “look-alike.” Conceptually,
the term refers to a sort of ghostly double or “evil twin”
- think Fight Club and John Donne. It’s fitting, then, that
for The Fall of Troy’s Equal Vision debut, the band chose
to revisit a handful of songs that have already appeared on their
debut and their demos. But clever titles aside, this album does
little more than reconstruct some of the band’s already excellent
songs, swapping out the sharp, visceral production of their earlier
work and replacing it with some overly-polished harmonies and all-too-slick
instrumentation. Is it good? Yes. But is it disappointing? Unfortunately.
