From a person that has never listened to anything from TV on the Radio, I’m probably not the best person to ask for an opinion of the band. I’ve always heard good things about them in the past, but for those interested in the band, let me tell you, Return to Cookie Mountain is not a good place to start. There are a couple of fun little numbers like “Wolf Like Me” and “Blues from Down Here” where their dance-rock-indie-pop goodness shines, but the rest of the album is just plain dull. Droning repetition is so overrated. I don’t know a single person that enjoys listening to looped choruses for several minutes at a time. Those background “woos” found on many tracks really get on my nerves, too. I’ve heard their earlier stuff has less boring instrumentation and more lush vocals. Maybe you should check out Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes or earlier EPs if you want a more diverse TVotR.
