If the repetitive lines of “Maps” were annoying, then the Yeah Yeah Yeahs still aren’t for you. A versatile album that could be the background music to hurtling objects against a wall or wallowing in self pity, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are back with their trademark angst and repetitive lyrics. Karen O’s vocals are still striking, complementing the array of instruments and studio effects. Yet, this album does not offer much exploration of new musical territory. The resounding percussions set the beats in the opening tracks “Gold Lion” and “Way Out” and then wind down to a mellower “Cheated Hearts,” where O’s vocals are almost reminiscent of Jenny Lewis’. It seems as if they are treading in familiar territory to please their loyal fan base; so if you’re a fan, then this album is for you.
