SESTINA

Yes I am certain as I fall
so sweet into all this heat of summer,
that the more that is uncovered
the less I feel together.
I've been waiting for the first real rains,
and the time is coming up.

You gathered all of me up
but I think you enjoyed watching me fall.
Laughing when it crazy rains
you try to surprise the summer
with the thunder we make together
fighting the weather, completely uncovered.

I am disarmed by this smile of yours I've uncovered.
For a moment, I thought I'd made it up
like a puzzle badly put together.
But no, I saw your eyes fall
like the way the sticky leaves bend in the summer,
shyly green at the touch of the rains.

Those violent hysterical rains
that explode from the sky to leave nothing uncovered,
nothing safe from that jealous summer
water pouring down so hard it would be suicide to look up,
but oh we love to watch it fall
thickly in sheets sewn together.

More and more together,
physically impossibly closer so that what rains
down can't be said to fall,
but rather is thrown onto the blazing uncovered
pavement by a lusty wild sky, up
to no good, but no bad, just being summer.

But is it only summer?
Slowly our time spent together
makes the confusion of parting come up.
When the world finally rains
time down, and we stand uncovered,
and unprepared into graceful smiles fall,

I promise you that fall will not take from summer
what we had uncovered so delicately together.
Please, when it rains, let it fill you up.
