Ubiplay:
Teaching Assistant for an Undergraduate Course for Ubicomp Projects, Winter 2008

In collaboration with Prof. Gillian Hayes, we put together a new Undergraduate course for the Winter Quarter 2008. Students will be working under the supervision of graduate student mentors from the LUCI lab on applied research projects. Check out our course website. I am working with three undergraduate students on a project called Ubiplay. Ubiplay involves building sensing into toys and mobile devices. Manipulation of the physical objects will be linked to a digital visualization, thus creating an interplay between physical interaction and virtual spaces.
My responsibilities include teaching assistance, student coordination, support for design and development, idea generation and general technical and motivational advise. Games have often been used to stimulate physical activity in children and adults. With this project we will allow children explore the new technologies, while simultaneously allowing them to interact, collaborate and physically move in their everyday spaces.

Also, I am collaborating with three high schools in Long Beach, CA, this quarter. I am part of a nation-wide study to encourage nutrition change in teenage kids in playful ways. Findings from this partially ethnographic work will inform the system design for Ubiplay.
