A great loss

Dec 11, 2006Roberta had only been back at UCI for a short time; she hadn\'t yet finished unpacking her office. But in that brief time she brought a remarkable energy, insight, enthusiasm, and cheerfulness that was uplifting to everyone, faculty, staff, and students. The personal and intellectual contributions that she made even in such a short time will be greatly missed. Her passing is a terrible loss to us all, and to her extensive community of friends and collaborators beyond UCI.

Dec 11, 2006I was greatly grieved when I learned the tragic loss of Dr. Lamb. She was one of the greatest professors that I have had at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Last summer she said to me that she wanted to coach me how to conduct interviews in the field. It is really sad that I will never be able to work with her. I met her this August at AMCIS in Acapulco, Mexico. We had a nice chat but neither did I know that was the last time I talked with her. Her friendliness and smile are warmly remembered, and she is very much missed.
A great mentor
Paulo Maurin, Hawaii
Dec 11, 2006Multiple NSF grants, London School of Economics lecturer, Fullbright scholar. Many people often described Dr. Lamb as a rising star.
With her sudden departure after a bright existence, I think of her as a shooting star instead that quickly dissappeared into the sky.
You were a great mentor to me, but also a fan, giving me much confidence in what was ahead for me, and just the right push to make sure I got there. Thank you, Dr. Lamb, for all the support, advise, and help I received from you as a student over the years. I have learned a bit of theory, and a lot about life, from you. You were a big tree in the forest. Will always be grateful.

Friends in Turku remember Roberta
Eija Karsten
Dec 4, 2006Roberta spent autumn 2005 in Turku as the Nokia Fulbright Professor. She put away the sun glasses, bought jeans and sensible shoes and set on enjoying her daily walks, concentrated writing, Finnish class and twinkle lights. She left right before the winter proper set on. We continued collaboration over email, up to Nov 20th, when she sent me yet another manuscript.
She is very much missed by us all.

Dec 1, 2006I (and other students in her classes) were extremely fortunate to have her as our professor. She was down-to-earth, friendly and was always engaged in lively discussions with us as peers.
Sincere condolences to her family and loved ones. Prof. Lamb will be sadly missed by all of us :(
