A Dance Dream for Kenya
By: Anna Iliff
More than 20 dance crews performed at the third annual Ken-Ya Dance SoCal charity concert event at UC Irvine.
The event featured several student dance groups and had two headliners: Kinjaz and Poreotics, the season five winners of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.
Ken-Ya Dance was hosted April 28 by Kenya Dream, a UC Irvine student-run charitable organization founded by graduating senior Nithin Jilla. The group supports educational projects in Kenya.
This year, proceeds from the event are going toward renovating a library at Kokwa Island Primary School, which is geographically isolated and does not receive enough support to supply students with academic necessities.
The project will include a room renovation and educational tools such as books, computers, internet access, desks and chairs.
