2016 ICS Dean's Award Winners

Congratulations to the 2016 recipients of the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences Dean’s Awards, where accomplished ICS faculty are awarded for their innovative research, exemplar service, student mentorship and exceptional teaching skills. Recipients are peer- and self-nominated, garnering a certificate and a $500 discretionary award for their achievement. This year’s awardees are:

Dean's Award for Research
Sharad Mehrotra

Mehrotra is recognized for his contributions in the areas of database management, distributed systems and information technology for emergency response.

Dean's Mid-Career Award for Research
Dan Gillen

Gillen is awarded for his contributions in the area of statistical methods for clinical trial designs and for his contributions to biomedical research collaborations.

Dean's Award for Service
David Redmiles

Redmiles receives his award for his service to the department as chair, and to the campus as a member and chair of the Council on Academic Personnel.

Dean's Award for Graduate Student Mentoring
Michael Franz

Franz is recognized for his outstanding mentoring of doctoral students over the last decade.

Dean's Award for Undergraduate Teaching
Sandy Irani

Irani receives her award for her ongoing contributions to undergraduate instruction in discrete mathematics, including the development of an interactive, online text.
