ICS alumni named to ACM Future of Computing Academy

ICS alumni Julia Haines, Ph.D. ’15; Sun Young Park, Ph.D. ’14; and Julie Williamson, B.S. ’08 were recently recognized as members of the inaugural class of the Association for Computing Machinery’s Future of Computing Academy (ACM-FCA), a new initiative to support and foster the next generation of computing professionals. The goal of the ACM-FCA is to allow the next generation of researchers, practitioners, educators and entrepreneurs to develop an influential voice in their fields.

Haines and Park both earned their doctorates in informatics. Haines now works as a user experience researcher for Google, while Park is an assistant professor of art and design for the University of Michigan’s School of Information. After graduating from UCI with her B.S. in informatics, Williamson went on to earn her Ph.D. in computing science from the University of Glasgow, where she continues to teach as a lecturer in Human Computer Interaction.

The first meeting of the ACM-FCA will be on June 25, 2017 in San Francisco during ACM’s Celebration of 50 Years of the ACM Turing Award. Members of the inaugural ACM-FCA class represent 19 different countries; view the full list of ACM-FCA members here.
