ICS welcomes 1,137 undergraduate, graduate and transfer students for fall 2017, a 9 percent increase over last year.

The Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences welcomed some 1,137 students (472 freshmen, 375 transfer and 290 graduate students) for the fall 2017 academic quarter, a roughly 9 percent increase over last year. This included the 100 professional graduate students who are part of the inaugural Master of Computer Science (MCS) cohort.

During UCI’s Welcome Week, which took place Sept. 24-30, new and returning students enjoyed a fun-filled lineup of activities that included a hypnotist show, concerts in Aldrich Park, UCI women’s and men’s soccer matches against the University of San Francisco, and the Anteater Involvement Fair. All six official ICS student clubs participated in the fair, including ICS Student Council (ICSSC), Women in Information and Computer Sciences (WICS), Video Game Development Club (VGDC), Management Information Student Society (MAISS), UCI Chapter of the Association of Computer Machinery (ACM) and Hack, as well as Cyber @ UCI.

ICSSC President Sui Feng Xu said he hopes to see many new faces at this year’s events. “We worked hard over the summer to schedule the numerous company and social events scheduled over the next few weeks, and we hope that the ICS student body comes to seek opportunities at our info sessions,” he said. Information about upcoming events can be found on the ICSSC Facebook page.

Bookmarking the end of the week is an action-packed evening at the eSports Annual Kickoff sponsored by UCI eSports at the UCI eSports Arena, which will open its doors to students for a free evening of gaming where participants can learn more about UCI’s competitive team while getting to know fellow gamers.
