How do I activate the network port in my office in Bren Hall?

Please contact your department's administrative assistant to get a network port in Bren Hall activated.

How do I add a network printer?

How do I setup a mailing list?

Only a faculty or staff can request for a mailing list to be created. You might want to check with your department's administrative assistant first to see if a list already exist that might meet your need.

To setup a list, please send an email request to: helpdesk@ics.uci.edu.

How do I setup my own webpage?

Please refer to the Personal Web Space instructions page.

How do I get my account renewed?

  • Faculty: Your account will be renewed automatically, annually.
  • Staff: Your account will be renewed annually by your department's manager.
  • Students: Your account will be renewed each quarter automatically if you are listed as being in one of the major or enrolled in a class under the Bren School of ICS. If you are neither, please ask your sponsor/advisor to extend your account.

How do I renew an account that I sponsor?

Please login to this link, select "Extend My Users", and you will get a list of accounts that have you listed as the PI. You can then choose which accounts to be extended. If you belive that an account should be removed/added, please send an email to helpdesk.

What is a gsu/group account? How do I set one up? How do I access it?

  • A gsu or group account is a shared account which multiple users can access the account's content.
  • Only a faculty or staff can request a group account. Please send an email to helpdesk with the request.
    • To get access to an existing account, the account's owner must submit an email request to helpdesk.
  • For instructions on how to access the account, please choose one of these platforms:
    • Windows
    • Mac
    • Unix/Linux.
      • From a command prompt, enter
        gsu account_name
      • Enter your ICS password
      • Depending on how your start up file is set up, you may have to change the directory to /home/account_name

What is mailboss? (vacation message, spam filer, mail forwarding, etc.)

Mailboss is a web-based appliation that is used to set various email settings such as vacation message, spam filtering, and email forwarding. Black/white list can also be setup here. If you do not understand a setting or need to set something that is not in mailboss, please send an email to helpdesk.

What is the minimum system requirement for a desktop or server that is supported?

  • Desktop (Windows): If you would like for us to put our image on your machine, it must be a Dell Optiplex 260 or higher.
