Q: How do I change my password?

Please go to the site http://support.ics.uci.edu/passwd. This page is only available from on campus. If you are off campus please use the UCI VPN. For more information on VPN see http://www.nacs.uci.edu/security/vpn

Q: Why can I not change my password? I get the message "You do not have permission to change your password".

This message is very misleading. The problem is that you have selected a password that is too easy to guess. Here are the guidelines you must follow in order to change your password:

  • Passwords must be at least 6 characters long.
  • Passwords must contain characters from at least 3 of the following 4 classes:
    • English Upper Case Letters A, B, C, ... Z
    • English Lower Case Letters a, b, c, ... z
    • Westernized Arabic Numerals 0, 1, 2, ... 9
    • Non-alphanumeric characters such as .,;:*&!#
  • Passwords may not contain your username or any part of your fullname.

If you do not type a password that conforms to the rules, you will get one of two following messages:

  1. You do not have permission to change your password.
  2. Your password must be at least 6 characters long and cannot repeat any of your previous 2 passwords. Please type a different password. Type a password which meets these requirements in both text boxes.

If this happens, just try a different password until you get the message "Your password has been changed." (Please note that it may take up to 20 minutes for your new password to take effect.)

Q: When I log in, a message "Your account has been disabled. Please see your system administrator." What steps must I take to have it unlocked?

Please see the lab assistant in CS 364. The lab assistant will get in touch with the Lab Manager whom you must see to get your account unlocked.

Q: I forgot my password. How can I reset my password?

See the lab assistant in CS 364 and bring your student ID card to have your password reset.
