Printer FAQ »

Q: How do I access Network or ICS Domain printers when logged onto my local Windows workstation?

Our print server is not setup to handle non-domain users using our printers. This includes users who are logged onto their local machine rather than the UCI-ICS domain. ICS faculty, staff and grad students can circumvent this problem by setting up their systems to print using the Unix Print serivces. ICS staff and faculty can find directions to turn on unix print services and add a printer, by going to the ICS Intranet and clicking on the Computing Support page. At the bottom of the page you will find a link called Instructions on how to print from your laptop. Grad students can email helpdesk@ics.uci.edu

Q: How do I add a printer if I am logged into the ICS domain?

If you are logged into the ICS domain you can add a printer using the following instructions:
Go to the Start Menu and click on Run... and type:
\\piccolo
A window should pop up with all available printers. If you do not see a printer that you wish to map, email us at helpdesk@ics.uci.edu.
Find the printer you would like to add and double click on it.
The printer has now been added to your available printer list. You can close the printers properties window and the window to Piccolo.
