Printer setup in Windows 2000 »

The following instructions are for printing from staff and research Windows 2000 Workstations. These instructions will only work for ICS Faculty, Staff and Graduate students. ICS Undergraduates and ICS Faculty who are interested in using the lab printers should see the labprinters webpage.
  1. First, double click on the "My Computer" desktop icon. Next, double click on the "Control Panels" folder. Finally, double click on the "Printers" folder. You will end up with a window that looks similar to this:

  2. Double click on the "Add Printer" icon. This causes a wizard to open with the following screen:

  3. Click the "Next" button and you will see this window:

  4. Choose the "Network Printer" option, click on the "Next" button, and you will see this window:

  5. Click the "Next" button to browse for a printer. Under the "Shared Printers" section, a number of computers will appear.

  6. The department's print server is called "PICCOLO" and is part of the "UCI-ICS" domain. Scroll down the list. When you see "PICCOLO," double click on it and a list of printers like this should appear:

  7. Double click on PICCOLO to get it to display the list of available printers. If you can't find the printer you want to use in the list, send mail to helpdesk@ics.uci.edu specifying the name and location of the printer you would like to use.

  8. Once you have found the printer you want in the list, click on it to select and click on the "Next" button.

  9. Choose whether or not you want to use this printer as your default printer and then click the "Next" button.

  10. Finally, it will tell you that the computer was installed. Click on the "Finish" button.

  11. The printer should now show up in the Printers folder that you opened in Step 1.
