How to open up an XWin32 window in the ICSLab:

  1. Left click on the start button

  2. Left click on the Xwin32 icon

    • If its not there, go to All Programs and look for XWin32.

  3. After finding the XWin32 icon left-click on it.
    • You will see the XWin32 splash screen come up as the program initializes and then it will disappear.

    • If you look in the icon tray in the lower right-hand corner you will see the XWin32 icon.

  4. Left-click ONCE on the icon.
    • You will see a small window above the icon that says open.lab.ics.uci.edu.
    • Left-click ONCE on that window.

  5. Another window will open up in the middle of the screen. It will ask for your password.

    • Enter your password.
    • Left-click on the okay button.

    • If you entered the correct password, an xterm window should open up.
    • If the password was incorrectly entered you will see a different window asking you to re-enter your password.

  6. Give it a few seconds, sometimes it takes a while, depending on how much traffic there is.
