Most departments of computer science evolved out of engineering and math in the 1970s, and today retain a strong tie to their roots.

At UCI, Information and Computer Science was founded as an independent department in 1968 and promoted in 2003 to the only computing-focused school in the UC system.

Further, the very name of our School indicates that we study not just computers, but also the information that computers create as well as the impact that computing and information have on society.

Compare the Bren School to any other computer science department or school. Do other universities have the same breadth? Do other universities have the same depth within a particular area?
