UCI and the Bren School are committed to giving every student an optimum environment for learning and achievement.

In addition to UCI’s Campuswide Honors Program, the Bren School has two complementary honors opportunities.

» Bren School of ICS Introductory Honors Courses
The Bren School offers an honors introductory sequence (ICS H21/H22/H23) for selected incoming freshmen majoring in CS, CSE and ICS.

The courses are limited to 30 students, and provide a uniquely challenging and intimate learning environment in which to cover conventional course material in greater depth and scope.

Incoming freshmen are evaluated based on criteria established by Bren faculty and are admitted to the Bren School introductory honors sequence in the summer preceding their fall quarter entry; details are provided during summer advising workshops.

» Bren School of ICS Honors Program
The Bren School of ICS Honors Program allows selected juniors and seniors majoring in CS, CSE, Informatics, and ICS to pursue advanced work in one of many research areas.

Students admitted to the program participate in an honors seminar, conduct independent research under the guidance of a faculty member (for a minimum of two quarters), and write a research paper for review by the faculty advisor and the Honors Program advisor.

Successful completion of the Bren School Honors Program earns the student a certificate and medal from the School, and special notation on the student’s transcript. more »

» Campuswide Honors Program
The Campuswide Honors Program (CHP) is available to high-achieving students in all majors from the freshman through senior years. Admission to the program is competitive and students selected for CHP as freshmen are at the top of their secondary schools.

Students who apply to join CHP after enrolling at UCI must have a minimum college GPA of 3.5 plus other distinctions and attributes of honors-level university students. The majority of CHP students continue their studies after graduation at the most prestigious graduate and professional schools in the country.

In addition to personal and intellectual growth, CHP offers students a special curriculum consisting of small, seminar-style classes, close interaction with peers, honors advising, the undergraduate research thesis experience, and mentorship by faculty recognized for their outstanding teaching and scholarship.

The program is a community of scholars, one in which development of the mind goes hand-in-hand with development of the whole person. more »

"When I started here, I had never programmed in anything beyond some simple HTML. The ICS curriculum taught me how to program. After my sophomore year I was offered a full-time job by the company I was interning for. If someone like me, without previous programming experience, can be offered a job after two years in the ICS program, just think of what opportunities await after four years with an ICS degree." read more »
