› Southern California Computer Science Conference for high school teachersAbout Our School
Thanks to a $20 million donation from local philanthropists Donald Bren, the Department of Information & Computer Sciences has been transformed in to the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences. We are currently the only school of it's kind in the entire UC System, and one of the few in the country.
Becoming a school has allowed us to grow at a much faster rate than the programs at the other UC Schools. We have over 70 faculty members, 900 undergraduates and 300 graduate students, and our numbers are on the rise.
The newest addition to our school, Donald Bren Hall, was completed in Spring of 2007. This brand new, six story, state of the art building was created to provide an excellent work space for our population while fostering collaboration and innovation.
Please check out the Dean's welcome and the Bren School of ICS website for more information about our school.
Degree Programs
At the Bren School of ICS, we have recognized that the fields of Information Science and Computer Science are growing at such a fast pace, it is simply no longer possible to cover everything in just one major.
This was the major motivation behind creating several more specialized, in depth degree programs to go along with the more broad option that was already available.
We believe that by providing students with specialized and multi-disciplinary degrees, we are empowering students to explore their interests on a much more deep and detailed level than ever before. This also allows us to directly prepare students for the newest, cutting edge fields that are emerging in industry.

Southern California Computer Science Conference
The Bren School of ICS, the only independent computing school in the University of California system, hosts an annual Southern California Computer Science Conference (pronounced SUCCESS) for high school teachers.
Held on a Saturday in February, the conference provides the following benefits:
- An opportunity for high school math and computer science teachers to meet with Bren School of ICS faculty and students
- Learn about exciting advances in computer science and how this field is much broader than just programming
- Find out about UC Irvine’s freshman courses and the Bren School of ICS’s four undergraduate majors
- Network with other Southern California high school teachers
Educators from the following schools have attened the conference in the past and have helped Bren School faculty and partner representatives better understand some of their classroom challenges and needs for getting young people interested in undergraduate study of information technology and computer science:
- Morningside High School
- Brea Olinda High School
- William J. Knight High School
- Katella High School
- Millikan High School
- Beverly Hills High School
