Welcome to my ICS webpage!
I am a third year graduate student in the School of Information and Computer Science
at the University of California, Irvine. My advisor is Padhraic Smyth. My current research is on combining statistical
models of text with collections of human knowledge called ontologies (e.g. Wikipedia categories) to perform a variety of tasks such as:
- unsupervised summarization of large document sets
- mapping documents onto an ontology (i.e. finding a document to concept mapping)
- automatically refining an ontology given a corpus of documents.
I earned a B.A. in Mathematics and a B.A. in Computer Science from Swarthmore College. After graduating, I taught both middle school and high school math - quite a challenging job! I then spent a year as a researcher working with Tzu-Yi Chen in the C.S. Dept. at Pomona College before heading off to graduate school.
