THE IRVINE-GENEVA PRODUCTION SYSTEM

As an example of a full course production system, emphasizing highly interactive technology, I describe the Irvine-Geneva system. Work on this system began twenty five years ago at the Educational Technology Center of the University of California, Irvine. We were joined by computer science faculty at the University of Geneva about ten years ago. The system is now jointly maintained in both institutions.

Further information about this system can be found in a paper given at the IFIP World Conference on Computers, in Madrid September 1992. See the references at the end of this paper.

The Irvine-Geneva system has four major steps, with some repetition. Summative evaluation is also mentioned again in the following discussion.
