Support unit Organisation

Although the dialogue library arrangements for dialogues in Turbo Pascal 5.0 are kept as close as possible to those of its UCSD Pascal predecessor, some differences inevitably arise, whether from DOS file conventions, from Turbo Pascal's organisation of its UNITs and UNIT files, or from oddities in the local area network the Center uses, PC-NFS. This document describes the Turbo Pascal library arrangements, principally in their differences from UCSD Pascal's. Familiarity with the Center's longstanding library arrangements in UCSD Pascal is assumed, though a certain amount of discussion of them is provided for contrast.

The version of Turbo Pascal under which this work was done is 5.0 . Since then, Turbo Pascal 6.0, Turbo Pascal for Windows, and Turbo Pascal 7.0 have been released. Experience has shown these arrangements to hold well for version 6.0, but no experience has yet been gained with the latter 2 versions. No official upgrade has yet been made to Turbo Pascal 6.0, though, partly for lack of time, and partly because IBM is now marketing a package of ETC software developed with the 5.0 library, for which the Center may be called on to provide support services.
