Several curriculum development projects for both elementary school and high school have been concerned with the issues of understanding science. One such course was the Project Physics course developed at Harvard University with a group headed by Gerald Holton, F. James Rutherford, and Fletcher Watson. This course carefully noted matters of history and philosophy of science. Unfortunately not all aspects were retained when the course went into commercial production. These materials are little used in schools.
The elementary science curricula developed in the late sixties in the United States, the Elementary Science Study Program, Science a Process Approach , and the Science Curriculum Improvement Study, were all concerned with the way scientists work. These programs are rare today.
