Some informal science learning is intended to stimulate interest in science, to encourage students to take science courses, pursue a career in science, or to induce a friendly attitude toward science among the general public. With declining percentages showing interest in science, stimulating interest is an important national and international consideration.
Motivation is important in all learning, and so almost any learning material might have some motivational content. We can also find science learning material in which motivation is the primary intent. Many public television programs, such as Nova and 3-2-1 Contact, appear to have motivation as an aim. Science fiction is also known to be motivating.
