Preparation for Research

For more advanced students at junior--senior and graduate level, students learn how to conduct scientific research. This is a different learning experience from the others listed in this section, although it has affinity with problem solving.

Often instructional modes for research preparation are informal. The usual tactic is an apprentice situation, students working with the guidance of a scientist. These informal learning modes become dominant as students move toward independent research.
