This unit was intended both for this series and for another project at the Lawrence Hall of Science involving exhibits in science museums. It concerns the law of reflection for light.
It is, like many of the modules, a discovery module. The student has a simulated empirical capability, a flashlight to light a target after reflecting on a mirror.
The early hypotheses suggested by the initial empirical evidence do not work when new evidence is developed. These hypotheses must therefore be modified through later experimentation. One section of the dialog tries to isolate factors involved in the question of where to shine the light. The student discovers the law of reflection.
