I have joined Microsoft after spending some time at Yahoo Labs.
I was a post-doctoral researcher at the Computer Science Department of UC Irvine with Max Welling. Before that I was a post-doctoral researcher at the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit with Yee Whye Teh. I did my PhD in the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Tübingen with Carl E. Rasmussen, working on nonparametric Bayesian models. I obtained my B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University, Turkey.

I gave a short tutorial on Kingman's Coalescent for Hierarchical Representations at MLSS, La Palma.
I also gave practical courses on Dirichlet Processes and Gaussian Processes based on the DP demo code by Yee Whye Teh and the GPML toolbox by Carl Edward Rasmussen and Hannes Nickisch.

Slides of all my presentations at MLSS can be found here.

We have a new machine learning reading group at UCI. Follow this link to subscribe to the mailing list and to see the mail archive.

I have co-organized 1st Southern California Workshop on Machine Learning.

I am taking part in the undergrad summer research program iCAMP.

I gave a tutorial on clustering methods as a part of A Short Course in Systems Biology: Morphogenesis and Spatial Dynamics.

I co-organized a NIPS 2009 workshop on Bayesian Nonparametrics
