CompSci 260 - Data Structures - Winter, 2020 (Dillencourt)
Exam instructions. They will be repeated on the exam, but please read
them beforehand.
- The exam booklet consists of a cover page, answer sheets (some of which
are blank), and the exam questions. You need to turn in the cover page
and all answer sheets. You can keep the exam questions.
- Write your UCI NET ID legibly and large in the space provided on the
cover sheet on the front of the exam.
(Your UCI NET ID is the portion of your UCI email address that comes
before the "at sign" (@).)
- Write each answer on the answer sheet, in the space designated for that
question.
If you need more space for an answer, use the front of one of the blank
pages and write an appropriate note (e.g., ``answer continued on
front of page 6.'')
WORK ON THE BACK OF ANY PAGE WILL NOT BE GRADED.
- Turn in all pages of the answer sheets (including the additional
blank pages).
Write your name and UCI NET ID on every page you turn in
(including the ones you leave blank.)
- You will receive two additional points for complying with the above
instructions, allocated as follows:
- You will receive one additional point for writing your
UCI Net ID clearly and legibly in the space above.
(This means that if you leave the space blank or write something
in it other than your UCI NET ID you will not receive this point.)
-
You will receive one additional point for turning in all pages
and writing your name and UCI Net ID on each one.
(This means that if you fail to turn in one of these pages
or turn in in one of these pages without your name and UCI NET ID on it
you will not receive this point.)
- Answers should be clear, concise, complete, and correct.
This means you will lose points if we cannot find your answer
or if your answer is ambiguous / unclear, unnecessarily verbose, incomplete,
or incorrect.
- Asking questions during the exam is permitted, but it is not encouraged.
If you think a question is ambiguous, you should:
- List the possible interpretations.
- Indicate which interpretation you will be using.
- Make your answer consistent with that interpretation.
If your interpretation oversimplifies or trivializes the question,
you may lose points.
- The test is closed-everything:
no books, no notes, no neighbors,no calculators.
- Some questions may have a box that you can check to receive a small
number of points instead of answering the question.
On such a question
- If you think you have a good idea how to answer the question,
you should answer it:
- If you think you do not know how to answer the question,
you are better off checking the box than making something up.
Additional note. Seating will be assigned. At the start of the exam:
- Pick up your exam from me at the front of the class.
- Your exam will have a number on it (a letter indicating the row,
followed by a number indicating the seat within the row.)
- After you pick up your exam, sit in the assigned seat, and wait until
the exam starts.
- Once I have started handing out the exam no notes, books, neighbors, etc.
Quick Summary:
- Write your UCI NET ID on the front of the exam.
(This means you need to know your UCI NET ID)
- Turn in in all answer pages (including ones you leave blank) and write
your name and UCI NET ID on each one.
- Anything you want graded needs to be written on the FRONT of one of the
answer sheets. The back sides of the sheets will not be scanned and hence
will not be graded.
