to have the group start brainstorming about their Web 2.0 application using an iterative design process.
to provide feedback on whether project ideas are appropriate or not.
Instructions
Choose a group of 4 people to work with, and a group name.
Develop a proposal for a Web 2.0 application which has 10 design points, assigned as follows:
Required, but no points
A web site that implements the application
A coherent story of how the parts all fit together
Points from integrating data from a third party data/functionality provider
+2 points: Using Google Maps or Yahoo Maps
+2 points: Using Flickr or other photo-tagging site
+3 points: Using some other data/functionality provider
+4 points: Using a dynamic drop down list which populates itself from a unique third party data source
+0 points: Just using someone else's javascript library doesn't count for points (although you can do it pending copyright)
Integrating a cell-phone application
+2 points per application running on one phone
+1 point for the same application running on two or more phones
+1 point if it uses user GPS data
+1 point if it gets data from the web as well as puts data on the web
A really really cool idea
+2 points, but it must be really really cool integration, and still achievable by the deadline. The most likely way that these points would be assigned is if the staff feels your idea is really great, but too ambitious and we downgrade you in other areas and add these points to compensate.
Group Deliverables
Turn in one page with your group name and members.
Turn in a no-more-than-1-page application story/usage scenario.
Turn in one page describing where you think your design points are coming from
Turn in a scanned version of hand-drawn sketches of the interface at key points in the interaction
Main web page
Any sub pages
Any different views.
Put these things together in a single electronic document put them in the EEE DropBox by the deadline of noon on Monday April 24th.
Individual Deliverable
You will be asked to complete a group self-evaluation at a later date which asks for feedback on participation and professionalism of group members. So set up good communication now with your group so that you can manage expectations and responsibilities later.
