Bio: I graduated with a PhD from UC Berkeley, where I was advised by David Forsyth. I spent the last two years as a research professor at the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago. I was also fortunate enough to be a visting researcher at the Visual Geometry Group at Oxford, the Robotics Institute at CMU, and the Interactive Visual Media Group at Microsoft Research.
Research: I work primarily in computer vision, but am also interested in machine learning and computer graphics. Recent projects I've worked on: Object recognition (a recent invited talk and paper draft) Large-scale video analysis People tracking and activity recognition (a recent tutorial) Discriminative machine learning methods
Charless Fowlkes and I are currently setting up a CS vision lab. Please e-mail one of us if you are a current/prospective UCI student.Teaching: I will teach CS116, the undergraduate computer vision and computational photography class, this fall.
I taught CS273A (machine learning) this winter quarter - check out the nifty final projects.
