Week 1 Homework

Several homework assignments are due in week 1:

1. Monday, 9/29 (before start of lab): Watch or read the following Scratch intros:
   • the Scratch tutorial we watched in class (update: we didn't get to watch it in class)
   • another video (YouTube)
   • a "getting started" tutorial (pdf)
   • Your choice of a few Scratch projects on the Scratch home page. These run as Java applets.
   
   
2. Any time next week: Get your ICS computer account to use in lab. Read the EZ instructions at
   http://www.ics.uci.edu/~lab/students/acct_activate.php.
   
   
3. Tuesday, 9/30 (before 11:00 am): Read Poole, The Origin of Species (chapter 2) and the UCI Policy on Academic Honesty. Post comments on the US 12A Noteboard (see Syllabus for details).
   
   
4. Thursday, 10/2 (before 11:00 am): Read Salen and Zimmerman, Rules of Play. Post comments on the US 12A Noteboard (see Syllabus for details).
   
   
5. Friday, 10/3 (before 5:00 pm): Upload a photo of yourself to EEE (details on this below). The photo should be JPEG format, 200 pixels wide, and 190-210 pixels high, and should clearly show your face (and optionally neck and shoulders). If your picture is unsatisfactory or not uploaded, we will take a picture of you during lab.
   How to upload your photo:
   1. Name your file YourName.jpg (e.g. DanFrost.jpg, BillTomlinson.jpg).
   2. On the web, go to eee.uci.edu.
   3. Sign in with your UCInetID.
   4. Click on MyEEE.
   5. Under UNI STU 12A COMPUTER GAMES 1 Lec A (87650), click on DropBox.
   6. Upload your photo file into the US 12AStudentPhotos dropbox.
   7. Log out.
