I am an Assistant Professor in Informatics at  School of Information and Computer Sciences at UC Irvine.  My research interests are in human-computer interaction, ubiquitous computing,assistive and educational technologies and medical informatics. I am very interested in issues surrounding the technology needs of people in chronic care situations.   I direct the social and technological action research (STAR) group.  I am an alumna of the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech
  
  Recent News:
  Sam did a great job presenting our work on visual schedules at this year's International Meeting for Autism Research in London. Meanwhile, on the other side of the globe I was presenting work on chronic cancer care at Pervasive in Sydney.

We just had a poster accepted to IDC on Mo's work with mobile communications tools for children with autism.

AutismSpeaks has awarded us a grant on the augmented visual communications work.


 

  Teaching:
  I'm teaching the projects course in social impacts and field work this Spring.  We'll be doing a lot exciting work collaborating with UCI Medical Center.

Former classes
Winter '08:
- a grad seminar on recording and surveillance technologies Mondays 10 to 1 and
- an undergrad prototyping lab/projects class Wednesdays from 4 to 7 where we will spend hands-on time with ubicomp projects
