"It's that moment of dawning comprehension that I live for." -- Bill Watterson
Welcome to the Identity. The name of this site is a sort of mathematical/psychological pun, now somewhat outdated in some respects.
Megan O'Madadhain (née Foster) is the light of my life; the flame of my existence; the laser-designator on my...anyway, she is my beloved. We were married at the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon, on 8 July 2001.
Megan completed (with honors) her B.S. in computer and information sciences at the University of Oregon in December 2001; this nicely complements her B.A. in Spanish from Carleton College (1996). She currently (as of June 2006) works as a programmer/writer contractor at Microsoft.
Dependents, in order of appearance:
Our cats, Amaya, Branwen, and Kira, a litter of 3 born sometime around the spring of 2002. On 1 February, 2005, Megan and I became the proud parents of Corwin Alexander O'Madadhain. (Shortly thereafter we became the occasionally tired and stressed-out parents of said individual, but we're also still proud.) On 15 June 2007, unto us Adric Connor O'Madadhain and Riley Owen O'Madadhain were born. Twins are a lot of work, but they're great for parent cred. Plus the cuteness opportunities are manifold.
In my copious free time, I hang out with my family and friends, play French horn, sing bass-baritone, read (mostly speculative fiction, but anything else that doesn't read me first is fair game) and write compulsively, bicycle, cross-country ski, swim, and play soccer, frisbee, and addictive computer games. (This list would be longer but for the existence of the last item.)
You want to get hold of me, this is how.
Friends' PagesSome of the people I like, and the things that spring fully-formed from their foreheads (and onto their web pages).
Personal Essays and ReflectionsRants, personal explorations, and other random stuff.
Wish ListSometimes people ask me what I want for {Christmas, my birthday}. This is my response. It also contains a few things that Megan (or that collective entity which is Megan-and-I) wants.
Games That Megan and I OwnIf you plan on attending one of our Game Nights and want to know what to (not) bring, check this out.
Frodo's Memorial PageA memorial to my feline companion of 15 years, who died in October 2001.
Lyrics and CommentaryThese lyrics and commentary express, to one extent or another, things that I have felt or my perception of how others have felt about me. They don't speak for me in every particular, by any means, but they may serve as a point of departure for comprehension. Note: the commentaries are several years old at this point, and there has been a lot of water under the bridge since then, so they shouldn't necessarily be taken as an indication of my current mental or emotional state. These days they're mostly up here for historical continuity.
The information on these pages is highly personal. If I objected it to it being publicly accessible, it wouldn't be here...but you are put on notice that if you don't really want to know that much about my personal emotional history, don't read the commentaries. There's a lot of me in there, and this apparently has made some people uncomfortable.
Commentary on and suggestions for my site, of any sort--most especially in response to what I have quoted or said--are welcomed and, in fact, encouraged.
"Please consider yourself, now and henceforth, and no matter what anyone else ever asks of you, free to do any damned thing that you want that doesn't hurt someone else unnecessarily." -- Lady Sally McGee [Spider Robinson], Callahan's Lady
