Megan grew up in Milwaukie, Oregon and acquired a B.A. in Spanish from Carleton College. She is concurrently getting a second bachelor's degree in computer and information science from the University of Oregon, and working as a software developer in Eugene, Oregon.Joshua Christian Madden
Joshua grew up in Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and Virginia; he then returned to Oregon and got a double major in computer and information science and mathematics at the University of Oregon. He worked for a few years as a software engineer and then got a M.Sc. in applied mathematics from the University of British Columbia. He worked on a Ph.D. in computer and information science at the University of Oregon from 1999-2001, and will transfer to the University of California at Irvine in the fall of 2001 to finish his degree there.
Christine is a member of Megan's "emergency backup family" (the Saulsburys have been close friends of Megan's family since they met in college). She is an elementary school teacher in Milwaukie, Oregon, where she lives with her husband, Jeff.
Alex met Joshua through the Honors College at the University of Oregon, via the "reading night" gatherings that they helped to create. He is a free-lance tutor of various things (primarily mathematics) in Portland, Oregon.
Derek Foster
Derek is Megan's brother, and is also the agency by which Joshua met Megan. He is a software engineer in Portland, Oregon.
Coralyn Gauvin
Coralyn ("Cori") and Joshua attended the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSS&T) in Alexandria, Virginia (near where Cori grew up, and where Joshua went to high school); they were both in the choir. She is a hardware engineer in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she lives with her husband, Jeff.
Jeff met Joshua at the University of Oregon in a physics class. They shared classes, residences, and jobs for several years. Jeff works as a software engineer in Portland, Oregon, where he lives with his [noun], Kathy Austen.
Mara was another of the charter members of the group of people who organized the Honors College "reading nights", through which she met Joshua. She works as a sort of meta-computer-geek in Portland, Oregon.
Richard met Joshua at TJHSS&T (see above) by being unfortunate enough to share the twice-daily hour-long bus rides with him. He is working on his Ph.D. in astrophysics at Northwestern.
