entrigue is a prototype I built while interning with Alex Taylor at Microsoft Research in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

::abstract::

The notion of awareness has typically been treated as an information-driven, representational problem. Despite the volume of work that has been done on awareness displays, little has been articulated about the ways in which people achieve, understand and maintain awareness in their everyday routines. We reexamine awareness through the design of entrigue, a simple, lightweight photo display that playfully captures the comings and goings in a home. Initial experiences of the system in use indicate that awareness is an experience pieced together through cues all around us in the material world and built up over time.

::how entrigue works::

When entrigue senses that there are people in front of it, it takes a picture and shows it on the display. At any one time, only the last three photos taken are shown on the display, providing a sense of the temporal rhythms and flows of people who have recently entered a space.
