Julian Yarkony

Hello, I am Julian Yarkony. I am interested in variational inference and learning in Markov Random Fields. I hope you get a chance to read some of the publications below I have with my Doctoral Advisors Charless Fowlkes and Alexander Ihler. I am a 5th year PhD candidate at the University of California at Irvine. I am especially proud of the paper "Planar Cycle Covering Graphs" . It is a new algorithm for computing MAP estimates in binary planar Markov random fields. It represents the state of the art method known to me for the classic problem of computing MAP estimates in the Ising grids. Tightening MRF Relaxations with Planar Subproblems extends the methodology of planar cycle covering graphs to non-binary planar problems. My erdos number is 3.


I will be starting as a Post-Doc at UCI Santa Barbara in late summer of 2012 (meaning I will be Dr. Yarkony then). I will be a Post-Doc under Dr. Manjunath in the center for bio-image informatics.
