Why XML alone does not suffice

• XML can already handle new PropertyTypes:

  • I liked Ora Lassilaís RDF introduction!

    • Just declare a new element or attribute!

• ... but ìraw XMLî fails in two ways:

  • Interchange: Namespaces only identify new tags; DTD semantics do not provide types or composition
  • Scalability: Processing generic XML requires parsing text (ìthe entity taxî); and the order of XML elements is considered significant, requiring the whole graph.
