Course News

Check back here every day or so. I will generally post important coursewide announcements here. They will be listed in reverse-chronological order (i.e. newest items first).

Date Added News Item
T 9/3 By popular request, an answer key for the Final Exam is now available.
M 9/2 As promised, the final course grades are now available.
T 8/27 Tomorrow's priority lab sessions will be used as retake sessions. You may retake any exam that you'd like, just like in a normal retake session. You may attend only the section that you're enrolled in, with one exception: Section 3 is canceled, because its priority lab session is at the same time as the review session. So, if you're enrolled in Section 3, you may attend Section 2 instead.
T 8/20 I will be holding a review session on Wednesday, August 28, from 5:00-6:50pm in ET 204. I will not be bringing any prepared materials to the review session. Instead, I'll be answering your questions. The review session will continue until either we run out time or we run out of questions. So make sure you bring plenty of questions!
T 8/20 A sample final and a separate answer sheet are now available.
F 8/9 Lab 5 is available.
W 8/7 Lab 4 is available.
W 7/31 A mistake was found on the original answer key for the Midterm. Question 7 on the "2,5,8" version of the Midterm had the wrong answer marked on my answer key. I have regraded all of the affected Midterms, and posted the updated scores. Please note that the average score on the Midterm changed to 16.00 as a result of this (and one other minor) change.
M 7/29 The answer keys for the Midterm are now available.
M 7/29 The Midterm scores are now available.
W 7/24 A sample midterm and a separate answer sheet are now available. They are both PDF files, so you may need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader from www.adobe.com (it's a free download) in order to view them.
M 7/22 Lab 3 is available.
W 7/17 A mistake was found in one of the comments in the Lab2.java file that I provided with Lab 2. The comment above scoreIsOutOfRange() described exactly the opposite of what the behavior should be. scoreIsOutOfRange(), as the name suggests, should return true if the score is outside of the allowable range, and false if the score is in range. I've updated the comment, and I expect that you will implement or use this correctly in the lab exam.
Su 7/14 The Final Exam has been extended to just under two hours: 10:00-11:50am on Friday, August 30, in the normal lecture room (SST 220A).
W 7/10 A schedule of retake times is now available. The first retake session will be held this afternoon at the scheduled time.
M 7/8 Lab 2 is now available.
Th 6/27 As promised in yesterday's lecture, I've written up a document that describes how to set up Java on your machines at home, if you're so inclined.
Th 6/27 Lab 1 is now available.
W 6/26 Unbeknownst to me, CS 192 has been reserved for most of the summer for a children's technology camp and other related activities, so all of our priority lab meetings have been moved to CS 183.
M 6/24 Here is the preliminary version of the course Web site. Presently missing are lab assignments 1 through 5, though an orientation exercise (Lab 0) is available, so that you can familiarize yourself with using the machines in our computer labs, as well as typing in, compiling, and executing Java programs.
M 6/24 Discussion and lab sections will begin meeting on Wednesday, June 26.
