Notice of Race

Call for Entries

San Diego and Bahia Corinthian Yacht Clubs invite you to compete in the 9th annual coastal race from Newport Beach to San Diego on the weekend of August 2,1997. Yellow cone will be at 1050 hours, Saturday, 2 August We,promise you an enj oyable and challenging race--a great one-night stand--and equally enjoyable and challenging parties on both ends. Both clubs will be pleased to provide free berthing for racers for up to a week before and after the race. This way, you can combine summer cruising with ¥ couple of smashing parties and a firstclass boat race.

The Course

From the starting area off Balboa Pier, the fleet may take a weather leg, then head for San Diego. After rounding San Diego entrance buoy #3 to port, the finish will be 1/4 nmile east of pylon "Y" of Zuniga Jetty.

Eligibility

There will be PHRF fleets, which will be divided into classes according to the number of entries. Other fleets and classes may be added ae the discretion of the race committee. All skippers must be current members of their respective ne;ets and of a club recognizecf by the United States Sailing Association.

Safety Requirements

Participants must comply with U. S. Coast Guard Safety regulations for their size boat. You also have to comply with the safety requirements of your fleet. To determine specific fleet safety requirements, this race is designated:

PHRF Category I

Participants are also required to have a VHF marine radio with, at least, channels 06,16, 69 and one additional ship-to-ship channel. Any entrant may be inspected for safety compliance after the race

Sailing Rules

The sailing instructions and other important information for this race will be included in rsaskets, available at the office of Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club beginning Thursday, 31 July. The race will be governed by the current Yacht Racing Rules, as adopted by the United States Sailing Association.

Berthing Arrangements

Boats from outside Newport Harbor will be offered free docking/rafting at Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club for up to one week before the start of the race. BCYC will accommodate each skipper who makes an advance reservation on the entry form, which must be received by BCYC at least 24 hours prior to arrival. Entrants who do not actually participate in the race will be backcharged at the rate of $1.00 per foot per day.

Participating boats from outside San Diego Bay will be offered free docking/ rafting at San Diego Yacht Club for up to one week after the race.

Race Packets

Just about everything you'll need to know will be in these packets. They will be available, by sail number, at the BCYC office from 0900-2100, 31 July, and 0800-1000 on 2 August.


What's happening at Bahia Corinthian

Hosted beer and soft drinks by the pool.

Friday, 1 August

Dinner includes vour choice of ribs, steak, chicken or hamburger with fries and salad.

Saturday, 2 August

0700-0930

Full-on breakfast with juice, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, muffins, etc.

Barbecue which includes your choice of sword-fish, pepper steak, carne asada, BBQ beef ribs, 1/ 2 or 1/4 pound BBQ chicken, hamburgers and Catch-of-the-Day--al1 cooked over mesquite coals.

To help both clubs in planning please indicate in the appropriate space on the entry form how many members of your crew and family might be expected to attend each event.


Entry Fee and Deadline

Mail your entry and entry fee of $50.00 (check payable to BCYC) to arrive no later than 1900, Wednesday, 30 July. (USSA members include your current USSR membership number and deduct $5.00 from the entry fee.)

Entrants must provide a current and valid PHRF certificate/rating, or other class certificate, and attach to entry. Cruiser entrants to complete class engine allowance forms along with entry. Late entries will be accepted until 1800 hours, Friday, 1 Rug- ust, for an additional $25.00 fee.
