Enrollment Priorities

Spring 2024: ICS Course Restrictions

This timeline for ICS course restrictions updates is being provided to help students with planning during the open enrollment period.

It is highly recommended that students check this page periodically. The timeline will be followed for the most part, but course restrictions are subject to change, such as in the case of highly impacted courses where restrictions may be extended or adjusted at a time other than initially planned.

ICS Student Affairs reserves the right to adjust restrictions and the timeline at any time.

Important Notes:

  • ICS Graduate Students who wish to enroll in a restricted ICS course (e.g., a Stats M.S. or Ph.D. student wishing to take CS 284C) may contact an ICS graduate counselor for assistance.
  • ICS strictly enforces the campus’ Week 2 add/drop deadline. The add/drop deadline for Spring 2024 is 5:00pm, Friday, April 12, 2024.
  • Graduate students outside of the School of ICS must wait enroll in ICS courses. No exceptions to this registration schedule will be made.
  • ICS Graduate Students wishing to enroll in an ICS undergraduate level course may send an email requesting authorization to ucounsel@uci.edu beginning March 11, 2024.
  • ICS Undergraduate Students seeking to take an ICS graduate level course and receives permission from the instructor may email gcounsel@ics.uci.edu for assistance beginning March 11, 2024.

  • All courses with suffix ‘P’, e.g., CS 201P: restricted to students in the MCS and/or MDS programs only

DATA: Restricted to students in the MDS program only

IN4MATX: Restricted to INF, SE, CS, and STATS graduate students only, except:

  • INF 285, INF 287, INF 289: Restricted to students in the MHCID program only

NET SYS: Restricted to NS graduate students only

STATS: Restricted to Stats graduate students only, except:

  • Stats 203, Stats 281C: All graduate students except Statistics
  • All courses with suffix ‘P’, e.g., Stat 205P: restricted to students in the MDS program only

SWE: Restricted to INF, SE, CS, and STATS graduate students only, except:

  • All courses with suffix ‘P’, e.g., SWE 263P: restricted to students in the MSWE program only

School/Major restrictions lifted

School/Major Restrictions removed from ICS graduate level courses.

  • ICS graduate level courses now open to all graduate students.
  • Undergraduate majors may begin requesting permission to enroll in open, ICS graduate level courses. Send inquiries to gcounsel@uci.edu

5:00pm: Fee payment deadline for the Spring 2024 quarter

  • Missing the fee payment deadline will result in your being dropped from Spring courses

12:00pm: WebReg re-opens for continuing registration

5:00 pm: Add, Drop, Change Grade Option deadline

  • Last day to add, drop, or change grade option in WebReg for any ICS course.
  • Check your position in any waitlisted course(s), and be sure to drop if it is no longer needed/desired.
