Climatepedia to lead a UCI delegation during Earth Day's March for Science rally

Kimberly Duong, student president of the Climatepedia UC Irvine chapter, will be leading a group of students and faculty to Downtown Los Angeles to participate in the March for Science rally on Earth Day, April 22, 2017.

The March for Science is the first step of a global movement to defend the vital role science plays in our health, safety, economies and governments. Science advocates, science educators, scientists and concerned citizens are invited to participate at the National Mall in Washington or any of its more than 425 satellite marches around the world.

Climatepedia is a student-led, not-for-profit climate change education and communication organization run by UCLA, UCI and Yale University students and alumni. Their mission is to be the most straightforward source for climate change information on the web. The organization actively works to gather climate researchers, scientists and experts to sign their Tyndall Petition, a display of agreement among scientists on human-driven climate change.

Duong is a current Ph.D. candidate in civil engineering at UCI and a UCLA alumna, where she was a founding member of Climatepedia. Currently the organization has around 20 students from UCI, but they are actively looking for more people to join.

“What separates us from other student groups is that ours is less social activities and more concrete work,” said Duong. “Being an active member of Climatepedia is a great way to learn important job skills and build a solid resume,” she added.

ICS students interested in lending their time and expertise to the organization, or simply interested in learning more about Climatepedia’s work, are encouraged to attend one of its meetings that are being held every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Donald Bren Hall, Room 1422 through the spring quarter.

Students and faculty interested in joining the UCI delegation to the March for Science on April 22 can contact Duong at Kimbed2@uci.edu.
