1. Complete Transfer ICS Online Orientation

2. Take Online Orientation Completion Survey

3. Sign Up For A Mandatory ICS Summer Transfer Advising Session 

  1. Choose an orientation session below and register. You will need to use your UCI email address. During Transfer Advising, in addition to helping you select and register for your Fall quarter courses, you will learn more about ICS and the university as a whole.

2022 Transfer Advising Dates: All sessions will be held from 9:30am-12:00pm (PST)

    • Friday, July 8th
    • Thursday July 14th
    • Monday July 18th
    • Wednesday July 27th
    • Wednesday August 3rd

Your ICS Academic Advising Session is mandatory.

    • You are required to attend one of our sessions.
    • During this session you register for courses. 

2. Note that there is an "advising hold" on your record. This will be removed during the Transfer Advising session.

3. Transfer Advising registration requires the following:

    • Unofficial copy of your transcripts,
    • Course syllabi for review.
      • Go here to learn more.
    • IGETC (if you have one).
      • What is IGETC?
      • Is it mandatory?
        • No
      • When do I complete it?
        • Before you start this Fall.
        • We must have official certification by your community college.
      • I don't have an upload, is that ok?
        • Yes, IGETC is not required by us for admission.
        • If you will be certified this summer, then please indicate that you have a full IGETC certification when you sign up for transfer advising and then make sure to submit the official certification to UCI Admissions as soon as you have it. 
        • If you don't have IGETC: you can ignore this section of the registration.
    • AP/IB Test Scores (if you have any)

Any student with a documented disability needing accommodations for the Summer Orientation Program should register for services through the Disability Services Center by applying online at dsc.uci.edu.

4. Sign up for your Credit by Exams 

  • Sign up for your exams early, dates can be found HERE.

Which exam do you need? Please review the specific credit by exam websites for ICS 31, ICS 45C and ICS 45J to determine which exams to take. Then, sign up to take the appropriate exam(s).

5. Complete TSPOP (transfer student parent orientation program)

6. Review the ICS Lab Policy HERE

  • Your ICS accounts will be activated during your orientation. You will receive instructions on how to complete this that week.

*We do not have an articulation for ICS 31-33 for the California Community Colleges on this list. So if you are a proficient programmer, we recommend you take the ICS 31 credit by exam.

7. Read the New Student Handbook

Get info about finances, academic info, student success, transportation, involvement opportunities, and more. This is the place to find everything you need to know

8. Check In With Your Admissions Counselor

Visit the Message Center at your UCI Applicant Portal homepage. You will be sent a message about any missing documents/transcripts or if they have placed a hold on your record.

  • July 1: Deadline to submit official transcripts to Admissions. 
    • Missing this deadline results in an admissions hold.
  • July 15: Deadline to submit official test scores.
    • Missing this deadline results in an admissions hold.
  • A type 6 hold wrill remain on your record until you attend advising, however an admissions hold will prevent you from attending advising/registering for classes.

9. ICS Laptop Recommendations

Purchase a laptop if you do not already own one. Our website has recommended laptop specs posted. Students in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences will be required to own a personal laptop for coursework. 

Financial Aid may be available for purchasing a laptop. Please inquire with the Office of Financial Aid.

13. How do I access the advising session?

  • You will be provided with a specific link to the advising session through your UCI Email 1-2 days before the session.
  • Arrive to your online session early and test your audio/video capabilities.
  • Be prepared to have your video turned on.
  • You should consider keeping something nearby to write notes.

 Your Tasks

1. Activate your UCInetID

  • Your UCInetID can be found on the top of your UCI Applicant Portal homepage
  • Action item: write down your UCInetID and password, and bring it with you to your summer transfer advising. You will need it to register for classes.

2. Submit your campus housing application

  • Contact the UCI Student Housing office if you did not submit the housing application, but would like to see if housing is still available. 

3. Check your “MyAid” file

  • Please make sure you check your “MyAid” file to verify the status of your application.
  • Register finaidmail@uci.edu with your email spam checker / safe list to ensure that you successfully receive emails from the UCI Financial Aid Office.  This will ensure you don’t miss email notification regarding your financial aid deadlines and file status.

 4. Set up your UCI Gmail

  • We will be sending out information for your Transfer Advising here.
  • We will be using the ICS Google suite to share information with you.
  • Without activation, you will not be able to see what we send you.
