ICS Student Affairs Live Chat is an online live chat service available for students to ask general advising related questions. Academic Advisors/Peer Academic Advisors in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences are available to answer general questions related to the following: 

  • Policies and Procedures
  • Degree Requirements for ICS Majors
  • Change of Major Requirements for ICS Majors
  • Prerequisite Information/Prerequisite Clearance
  • Enrollment Issues
  • Excess Unit Request
  • Course Offering Information
  • Referral to campus services

Live Chat is intended for questions that can be answered quickly. Questions/advisement requiring more time should be emailed to ucounsel@uci.edu. NOTE: Live Chat is NOT intended to answer questions related to:

  • Fall courses and/or transcript evaluations for prospective students (these topics will be covered during summer orientation)
  • Career Counseling
  • Admissions Counseling
  • Transcript Evaluation
  • Graduation Checks
  • Creating a Study Plan
  • Academic Probation or Disqualification
  • Personal/Crisis/Mental Health Counseling in lieu of the UCI Counseling Center

Live Chat is not available for Personal/Crisis/Mental Health Counseling. UC Irvine students in need of these services should contact the UCI Counseling Center directly: http://www.counseling.uci.edu/

Although the chat system will allow you to sign in for a chat after 11:30am in the morning and after 3:30pm in the afternoon, students will NOT be seen if they sign in past the hours listed above due to the high volume of chats. 

NOTE: the Live Chat is NOT meant for prospective students to get advising on fall courses or transcript evaluations. These topics are covered in our summer orientation.
