ICS 192 - Industrial or Public Sector Field Study
Internship course available for ICS students (only) that is required for CPT or optional for domestic students who are seeking internship course credit.
In order to be eligible to enroll in ICS 192, students:
- Must be in good academic standing and not on probation
- May not be pursuing employment (paid or unpaid) elsewhere
- Enroll no later than Friday of Week 2 of the quarter (Friday of Week 1 for Summer Session)
- Must agree to submit a final report and supporting paperwork by end of Week 8 of the quarter
- May not enroll in ICS 192 more than 4 times while enrolled at UCI.
Domestic students wanting to enroll in ICS 192 must submit the ICS 192 Enrollment Application Form and job offer letter to ucounsel@uci.edu. Job offer letter must include:
- Company’s letterhead
- Be addressed to you
- Job title
- Job description
- Location of employment
- Specify if work is part-time/full-time
- Specify the exact start and end date of employment
- Employer’s signature
Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
International students may be eligible for CPT, a type of employment authorization that allows students to complete an internship/training off campus during the summer. CPT is not available after a student completes a degree program. Consult the International Center for CPT policies and application requirements. Students will need the approval of their advisor on the CPT application.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)
International students may be eligible for OPT after graduation. OPT provides the opportunity to gain employment experience in the student’s major/field of study.
Consult the International Center for OPT policies and application requirements. The ICS Undergraduate Counselors can verify your graduation date and sign the Graduation Confirmation/OPT Recommendation Form that is required as part of the OPT application package. To have this form signed you can email it to ucounsel@uci.edu
