Dear ICS Students,

As part of the Peer Academic Advisor Application for 2022-23 Campaign, we will now be highlighting our fourth peer advisor.

As a reminder, the deadline to apply is on Friday, January 20th at 11:59pm!

Peer Academic Advisors are trained student staff to help out other current students with academic questions. They operate within the ICS Undergraduate Student Affairs Office, and assist the Academic Counselors. This role of Peer Academic Advisor is a great one for undergraduate students who are looking to be involved on campus within the Bren School of ICS and the UCI student community.

Isaiah Raya

Major: Computer Science

We asked our current Peer Academic Advisors what they most enjoy about their role and some advice they would give their first year self. Here is what Isaiah Raya had to say:

My favorite part of being a peer academic advisor so far has been interacting with the students whether that be at the annual commencement or through Zoom appointments. I really enjoy helping students and seeing them leave happier than when they came. It makes me feel that the peer academic advisor is an essential and positive role in the UC Irvine community.

A piece of advice I would give my first-year self would be to explore the campus opportunities. Even if it is just one club, activity at the ARC, or job, you would be surprised by the amazing people you’ll meet!”

Isaiah is also involved in the Tomo No Kai and Cine-Collective campus organizations and takes Krav Maga classes at the ARC. To learn more about these clubs, visit the CampusGroups website.

Brian Bulgarelli

We asked our current Peer Academic Advisors what they most enjoy about their role and some advice they would give their first year self. Here is what Brian Bulgarelli had to say:

“My favorite part has been helping out students during the drop-in Zoom hours. I think this has been my favorite part of the job so far because it’s the most interactive part of the job and, even though it’s virtual, it’s nice to help out students live.

Some advice that I’d give to my Freshman self: Enjoy your time as an undergrad, and go all out! The time passes by fast so make the most of your time during undergrad.”

Brian is also part of ICS Student Council (ICSSC). To learn more about this club, visit the CampusGroups website or the ICS website.
