31. OEBinary Version 2 Format

The OEBinary version 2 format is general format designed to support rapid compression, storage and access of numerous data types. In contrast to OEBinary version 1, it is not specific to molecules or molecular data. OEBinary version 2 is similar to Extensible Markup Language (XML) in that any arbitrary data can be stored and identified by associated data tags. Data tag identifiers are used to define the data contents and can be used to decide how the data should be parsed and interpreted. The format supports unlimited levels of recursive embedding of data records within data records. Objects can be made persistent across data files and streams through the use of OEBinary format files. The ultimate goal of the OEBinary v2 format is to provide a framework for facile and lossless data persistence.
