Teaching

I love teaching and developing educational resources.

Teaching

  • Special Theory Prep (Summer 2021)
    • Worked with graduate students who failed the first year qualifying exam in mathematical statistics to improve their foundation in mathematical statistics and feel prepared for the upcoming school year.
  • Special Methods and Data Analysis Prep (Summery 2021)
    • Worked with graduate students who failed the first year qualifying exams in statistical methods or data analyses to improve their foundation in methods and preparing a data analysis to feel prepared for the upcoming school year.

Additional Teaching Endeavors

Kyle has started developing two resources for teaching introductory statistics. The original ideas come from Dr. Mine Dogucu. The goal is to turn these projects into useful tools for teaching students the basics of statistics.

The two projects currently work together to help students calculate z-scores, t-scores, quantiles, and p-values from the information that will be given in a typical introductory question. There is also an option to visualize the distribution and area to which the probability corresponds. The projects are only in the very formative stages, with many more ideas for adding to them. Some of the goals include:

  1. Guide for choosing the right test
  2. Guide for using the right formula
  3. Step-by-step solutions for the z- and t-score questions
  4. Rejection regions on visualization plot
  5. Multiple plots for thinking about conversions from "original units" to "standard units"
  6. Expanding to two-sample cases
  7. Expanding to other introductory topics
  8. Many more ideas to be sorted through
