Modeling the small-world phenomenon

The small-world phenomenon, which is the observation that most people are connected through a short chain of friendships, has received a great amount of interest in the study of complex networks. In this talk, I will present an overview of different network models attempting to explain this phenomenon, as well as introduce a new small-world model, which we evaluate experimentally to show that it is better at finding short paths between pairs of vertices than existing models.
